Class
FAQ’s
How do I sign up for class?
Pre-registration is necessary for all sessions. Classes fill up fast, so it is best to pre-register as soon as possible to get the session you want. Fill out a registration form (indicating which class you want to be in on the top of the form). Then, mail the completed form with $90 (or $45 to hold your spot in class, then pay the other $45 on the FIRST day of class) to the address at the bottom of the registration form. If there is space left in the class you requested, you will be registered in the requested class. If the class is full, Ameelah will contact you right away.
Where is the studio located?
Trotter Centre
1622 Military Hwy
Pineville, Louisiana (see map)
What should I wear to belly dance class?
Dress for comfort.
Bottoms: We most often wear yoga capris, yoga pants, gauchos, long
flowy skirts (like boho or gypsy style). Our studio boutique
carries long colorful skirts & dance pants for purchase.
Hip scarves: Not mandatory, but helpful (& fun) for belly dance. You can
use a triangle scarf, fringe scarf, coin scarf, etc. to help you feel
and see the hip movements. Our studio boutique carries a
variety of colorful coin scarves for purchase.
Tops: Anything from crop tops, capri/tank tops, to full coverage tops.
You may or may not choose to show your stomach (whichever you
are most comfortable with). However, try to avoid baggy shirts due
to it limiting the ability of the instructor & yourself from seeing if
you are doing the technique properly.
Shoes: No shoes necessary. Most go barefoot; however some chose to wear
dance shoes.
Can I bring my child/children with me to class?
We kindly ask that you do not bring children to class. Although we love children, class time at our studio is meant for ladies only. In addition, children at the studio cause a distraction for the other students.
What is the difference between the two beginner classes?
Level 1 classes- Emeralds & Topaz, are all the same level (but often learn different dances). They are called different names to differentiate the time/date..
Which class should I take?
All students start in the Level 1 class of their choice. This level provides the basis of belly dance technique and is a fun and great workout! No previous dance experience is necessary, so come join in!
When do I move to the next level class?
Many students choose the stay in the level 1 class indefinitely for a great workout and fun choreography. If you find the beginner level 1 still challenging, then it remains the correct level for you. If you have mastered the techniques in that class; can easily learn & remember the choreography; and need more of a challenge, then it may be time to move up.
Level 2, 3, & Intermediate levels build on prior learned technique and add layering of movements and more challenging/technical choreography. Just ask your instructor &/or director if you would like to be considered for promotion.
